This season, the club fielded 4 teams, up from 3 the previous season, and all 4 teams had great seasons. The A’s taking part in the new Northern Cricket Union (NCU); a combination of NSCA and Northern District teams, had a good first up season. Finished the season 2nd, the highest placed NSCA team, and semi-finalist bodes well for the season to come. Cook and Costain in amongst the leading association run scorers, and Stavens and Walters amongst NCU’s highest wicket taker.
B’s led by Dan McKenzie had a solid year. Finishing 2nd on the ladder, going down in a close one in the Grand Final. Si and Ridley were both in the top 3 run scorers for the grade, and Lekhwar 2nd on the list of leading B grade wicket takers.
D1’s dominated the season, and finished first on the ladder; won convincingly in the semis; and lost the Grand Final in another close one. The openers Stonestreet and Jeffrey amongst D1’s leading run scorers, D1’s leading wicket takers included Brown and Pandey and Tatkovich the Association’s catcher.
But perhaps the greatest achievement belonged to the ‘new kids on the block’; the B1’s. Comprising of a few handy players formly from Wanderers; and a number of new players to the club; the B1’s finished the season top of the table; and lost a close semi final game. Page and Whyte had great season with the bat, and Herbert-Read and Payne in the top 10 wicket takers for B1. However the leading B1 wicket taker, with the best average belonged to Alec Draffin.
The strong showing throughout the season by all 4 teams resulted in Cammeray being awarded the Club Championship for only the 5th time in it’s long existence. In lieu of any premiership medals, we celebrated the Club Championship with great gusto at the presentation night on the 10th May. Well done to all the Cammeray players, a great effort by everyone in the club to secure this much treasured award. Let’s make it back to back and win it again next season, together with 4 premierships! Imagine the celebrations then….
