Cammeray Weekend Wrap – Saturday, 20th of Nov 2021

1st Grade | 7/190 def North Ryde 93 @ Marsfield | One Day Match

After weeks of rain and cancellations, 1st Grade finally got out to the middle and produced a dominant display against North Ryde. Batting first on a green deck with humid conditions, the Cammers reached drinks at 1/89 with an 86-run partnership between Jack Rickard (27) and skipper Kevin Johnson top scoring with a delicious 70 (good fifty).

Losing a couple wickets cheaply, the lads were 5/112 before Tommy Abraham (35) and Elliot Palmer (27) produced a much needed 56-run partnership to put up a competitive total for North Ryde to chase. Special mentions to debutant Charlie Tallentire with a clean hitting 14* and a cut shot to froth over.

Put on the back foot from the first over of their innings, North Ryde crumbled in 31 overs all out for 93 under the combined bowling attack of Shane Henry (3/17), Evan Ainsle (2/13), Tyron Gyde (2/27) and Kevy grabbing the scraps with 2/8. Great to see all the bowlers opening their accounts for the season with Lucais Haldane (1/27) also getting in the action.

3rd Grade | 140 and 4/165 loss to North Shore 251 @ ELS Hall Park 1 | Two Day Match

Going into day 2 of their match up with North Shore on 4/67, 3rd Grade unfortunately couldn’t get the job done being bowled out for 140 after 34 overs.

North Shore put Cammeray back in to bat and went for the outright win, but Cammers had other plans with James Fraser smoking 73 and David Howard also bringing up a half-century (55) forcing North Shore to call it quits with the boys at 4/165.

Special mentions go to Matt Antico who brought up his well-earned half century (58) in the first innings.

4th Grade | 352 def Bethel 192 @ Primula Oval | Two Day Match

After an incredibly successful first day with 3 half-centuries recorded in their first innings dig of 352. Cammeray 4th Grade rocked up on day 2 hot and steamy with the task of taking Bethel’s 10 wickets and making it back to the Bridgey with plenty of time for multiple schooners.

But Bethel prolonged that joyous occasion by digging in and making the boys work for it bowling 52.4 overs to bowl them out for 192. 4th Grade used 8 of their players to knock them over with Matthew Hipkiss being the pick of the bowlers with 3/22 supported by James Elhindi with 2/41 and Edward Smith (2/8) who came into the attack last and took 1.4 overs to wrap up proceedings.

5th Grade | 127 and 2/79 loss to Bethel 133 @ William Cowan Oval | Two Day Match

Needing only 5 wickets and defending 76 runs, it unfortunately wasn’t the day for 5th Grade who bowled out Bethel for 133 but not before they passed their 1st innings total of 127.

Throw in a questionable caught behind decision being turned down, the lads showed great fight with Ashish Phadke taking 3/31 off 13 overs, Duran Bezuidenhout 3/38 and John Perry 3/40.

Cammeray were put back in for the remaining 16 overs and used it as batting practice with 2020-21’s Phil Bowen Clubman of the Year – Owen Terzis in unfamiliar waters opening the batting and hitting a fine 28. But the big story is Mr Wade Ridley who played his 250th game for Cammeray CC hitting an unbeaten 37* – it may not be the overall team result you were looking for Wade, but congratulations on the fantastic milestone!

D Grade | 9/185 def West Pymble 113 @ Comenarra Sportsground | One Day Match

An early top of the table clash for our D Grade boys was on the cards last weekend against West Pymble in a one-day format. The lads batted first using their full 35 overs to score 9/185. Top of the batting list was opener Richard Walshe (57) and no.6 Oscar Mufford (54) with handy support from Luke Hovhanesian (26) and Benedict Coyle (17).

Backing up the solid batting performance were the bowlers with Nick Gardiner taking 2/12 with the new ball and Luke Shallvey successful and economical with figures of 2/9. Easily the clear victors with bat and ball and solidifying their spot on the top of the ladder – well done boys!
