Weekend Wrap – Saturday and Sunday 8th and 9th of January

Back in action in 2022 and it wasn’t without its challenges with covid-19 impacting the ability to field full strength sides.

Most distressing was the unfortunate step to seek abandonment of the 3rd grade match with a few players needing to self-isolate, and our 4th grade opposition also sought match abandonment meaning they also did not get a match in. For the other teams, overall a successful weekend with victories to the 2’s, 6’s and D1, while 1’s and 5’s narrowly missed out.

Here is this week’s wrap thanks to Ray White Lower North Shore Group!

1st Grade | 9/196 loss to Sydney United 7/199 @ Koola Park | One Day Match

After heavy rain on Sunday morning, the 1st grade lads won the toss on a very green deck and sent Sydney United in looking to take full advantage of the testing conditions. Unfortunately, rainfall followed the first hour of play causing the once hard swinging ball to become a soft slimy ball of soap in the Cammeray hands.

40 frustrating overs later with catch chances falling in gaps and ‘hoiking’ to cow later, Sydney United posted 7/199 to chase. Special mentions with the ball go to Lucais Haldane leading the way with 2/34 while 4 of the other 5 bowlers picked up a scalp a piece.

Cammeray’s innings didn’t get off to the best of starts with the top order out for 113 leaving Chris Walker (53*) and the bottom order to chase the remaining runs. Coming down to the final over, Cammeray needed 12 and fell just short at 9/196.

Great fight by the boys and no doubt they’ll be eager to make up for the lost points as they continue their dominance on the top of the ladder.

2nd Grade | 8/206 def West Ryde 8/133 @ Eastwood Oval | One Day Match

It was a dominant display by the 2’s at Eastwood Oval against West Ryde as their slow start to the season is well and truly coming alight. Batting first, the Cammer’s top order proved strong after losing opener Jason Stonestreet for 1. Special mentions go to opener Swaid Bhat (43) and Chris Walker (35) but leading the way was skipper Raj Chakravarty with 55 in total posting 8/206 after 40 overs.

A strong total to defend, the Cammer’s sealed the deal with handy bowling from the 8 who rolled the arm over. Top mentions go to Swaid Bhat and Andrew Park who, although didn’t take any wickets, bowled 5 overs 0/8 and 3 overs 0/6.

But having very strong weekend was Mr Chris Walker who picked up 4/16 in 4 overs and in doing helped so, win the day as 2nd grade won on net run rate.
